What the client was after

We got a call from one of our clients, residing in Imperial Ave, Gladesville, asking us to help with the installation of a Tesla charger on their property. After the client provided us with the necessary information, we scheduled an appointment to complete the job.

At AB Electrical & Communications we’re no strangers to providing EV charging installation services, considering the number of electrical vehicles in Australia has increased significantly over the past few years. More and more Australians choose to switch to electric cars due to the numerous benefits they provide, such as:

Why it is important that a qualified electrician install the Tesla charger

If you own a Tesla vehicle, having your own charging station at home is a great idea, as you’ll be able to save money, charge faster, improve battery life and enjoy greater convenience. However, when looking to install home charging equipment for your Tesla, working with a qualified electrician is of the utmost importance.

Installing any EV charger station requires adequate training and skills, and a thorough understanding of both the home’s electrical system and the charging unit. Therefore, only a qualified professional can perform the job safely and efficiently.

The specialists at AB Electrical & Communications have the experience, expertise, and skills to provide the guidance you need and carry out EV charger installation work on your property. You can rest assured our electricians will follow Tesla guidelines as required and take all the necessary safety precautions for an efficient installation process.

What work was completed

Arriving at our client’s location, we took the following steps to complete the installation process:

  • We ran a 4mm single-phase circuit back to the main switchboard – The 4mm cable will allow a current draw of 32 amps to allow for fast charging
  • The circuit was terminated in the main switchboard and protected by a 32-amp RCBO (safety switch)

Can I plug my Tesla into a regular outlet?

All Tesla vehicles come equipped with an adapter for a 110-volt outlet, giving you the possibility to connect your Tesla to a regular outlet. However, this will only provide approximately three to five km of range per hour of charge, depending on the model.

Therefore, if you want to increase charging speed at home, the best solution is to have a Tesla home charging station installed by a licensed electrician. A Tesla Wall Connector provides the fastest charging speed for your home, allowing you to increase the range to up to 70 km per hour of charge.

Where the job took place

For this project, we had to travel to our client’s location, on 15 Imperial Ave, Gladesville NSW 2111. Gladesville is a lovely suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney. It’s located 10 kilometers northwest of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Ryde and the Municipality of Hunter’s Hill.
